Abstract

A report from Takatsuki General Hospital in Osaka, Japan discusses the role of secondary imaging in children under 24 months with skull fractures. The study found that a significant number of children with skull fractures also had intracranial injuries, which were detected through follow-up magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Factors such as subcutaneous hematoma on arrival and the location of the fracture were associated with new intracranial findings. The research suggests that children with isolated skull fractures on initial computed tomography (CT) scans may not require neurosurgical intervention if they meet certain criteria.
