Abstract
- A study conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) compared the efficacy and safety of intravenous levetiracetam (LEV) and phenytoin (PHT) as second-line antiseizure medication (ASM) for children with status epilepticus (SE). The study found that the clinical cessation of seizures after the completion of drugs was similar in both the LEV and PHT groups, with no statistically significant difference in terms of seizure cessation, adverse events, and recurrence. The research concluded that LEV is comparable to PHT in controlling seizures as a second-line ASM in SE. [Extracted from the article]
