Abstract

A recent study conducted in Coimbra, Portugal, examined the effectiveness of allergen immunotherapy (AIT) in treating local allergic rhinitis (LAR) in children. AIT is the only disease-modifying treatment for allergies, and its efficacy has been demonstrated in adults with LAR. The study included 32 pediatric patients and 10 adult patients who underwent subcutaneous AIT for three years. The results showed a reduction in nasal reactivity and symptom scores after AIT in both pediatric and adult patients, highlighting the potential benefits of this therapeutic approach for LAR in children.
