Abstract

Instrumentation Laboratory Company has been issued a patent for a system and method for analyzing analytes in whole blood without the need for filtering or centrifuging. The system uses microfluidics and acoustic waves to separate the cellular portion of whole blood from the fluid portion, such as plasma, in the same device where analytes in the fluid portion are detected. This technology addresses the challenge of high throughput and rapid measurement of analytes in body fluids, as well as the detection of hemolysis in a whole blood sample. The system includes a microchannel, acoustic transducers, and an analyte detector. [Extracted from the article]
