Researchers from China Pharmaceutical University have developed size-tailored and acid-degradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) microgels for inhalation therapy of bacterial pneumonia. These microgels loaded with piperacillin antibiotics were found to effectively treat pneumonia by releasing the drug with high inhibition efficiency against E. coli. The inhalational delivery of these microgels showed superior lung deposition and reduced infection and inflammation.
