Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of Michigan explores the relationship between substance use before sex, perceived sex approval, and HIV/STI risk perception among youth aged 13-21. The study found significant interactions between perceived sex approval and lifetime substance use, as well as between HIV/STI risk perception and lifetime substance use, in relation to condomless vaginal/anal sex and oral sex practices. These findings highlight the influence of perceived sex approval and risk perception on youth's sexual behaviors and suggest implications for targeted interventions. The study was funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. [Extracted from the article]
