Abstract
- This document is a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office on the use of digital surveillance tools by employers to monitor workers. The report summarizes 217 public comments submitted to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy regarding the use of these tools and their effects on workers. The most commonly mentioned surveillance tools include cameras, microphones, computer monitoring software, geolocation tracking, and wearable devices. Employers use these tools to monitor productivity, worker performance, safety and health, and workplace security. Stakeholders have differing views on the effects of digital surveillance on worker productivity, well-being, and relationships with employers. Concerns raised by stakeholders include privacy, potential discrimination or bias, and the negative impact on worker morale and mental health. [Extracted from the article]
