Abstract

This article, titled "EP05.05: Adherence to the Mediterranean diet during pregnancy: effects on fetal cortical development," explores the relationship between a mother's adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) during pregnancy and fetal cortical development. The study involved a cohort of 214 women, and cortical development variables were compared based on their adherence to the MD using the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) score. The results showed that fetuses from pregnancies with medium or low adherence to the MD had significant differences in cortical development compared to those from pregnancies with high adherence, with reduced depths in certain cortical areas. These findings suggest a link between maternal nutrition and fetal brain development in uncomplicated pregnancies. [Extracted from the article]
