Abstract
- This article presents a case study of a 35-year-old male with HIV who developed chylothorax, a condition characterized by the accumulation of chylous fluid in the pleural space. The patient underwent various treatments, including thoracic duct ligation, but continued to have high chylous output. A CT scan revealed an occlusion of the superior mesenteric vein (SMV), and the patient subsequently underwent SMV recanalization and stenting. Following the procedure, the chylous output significantly decreased, and the patient's symptoms improved. This case highlights the complexity of diagnosing and managing chylous fluid accumulation and demonstrates the successful use of SMV recanalization and stenting as a treatment option.
