Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Dokuz Eylul University examined the efficacy of oral lactase treatment in infants with lactose intolerance. The study found that 86.7% of the infants responded positively to lactase treatment, with no significant differences based on sex, birth weight, or age at symptom presentation. However, the study also discovered that the effectiveness of the treatment improved over time, suggesting benefits from intestinal development and adaptation. Interestingly, the study found that infants receiving simethicone for colic symptoms had a reduced response to lactase, indicating a potential drug interaction. The researchers advise against using additional medications with oral lactase, particularly simethicone, as it may decrease the effectiveness of the treatment. [Extracted from the article]
