Abstract

Researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York have conducted a study on trogocytosis, a process by which cells acquire molecules from other cells. The study focused on hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), which are routinely mobilized from the bone marrow for transplantation. The researchers found that a subset of HSCs displayed macrophage-associated markers on their cell surface, suggesting that these HSCs were selectively retained in the bone marrow. The study provides evidence that adult stem cells use trogocytosis to establish and activate molecular mechanisms. [Extracted from the article]
