Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh explores the role of the Shu complex in promoting RAD51 activity, which is crucial for DNA repair and replication stress. The study found that the Shu complex, consisting of SWSAP1, SWS1, and SPIDR, binds to RAD51 and enhances its stability and ability to exchange strands. The researchers also discovered that the Shu complex enhances the diffusion of RPA on single-stranded DNA. Furthermore, the study identified cancer variants in SWSAP1 that affect the formation of the Shu complex, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target for cancer treatment.
