Abstract

This article explores the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in mental healthcare, specifically focusing on its impact on the therapist-patient relationship. AI technologies, such as chatbots, have the potential to provide personalized support and improve access to mental health services. However, there are concerns about transference, where patients may project their feelings onto the AI. It is important to carefully manage transference dynamics to avoid harm and maintain ethical standards. The development of AI systems that can recognize and appropriately respond to transference is necessary, and collaboration between AI developers and mental health professionals is crucial. Additionally, regulatory frameworks and ethical guidelines should be implemented to ensure responsible and effective use of AI in mental healthcare. Interdisciplinary collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and continuous monitoring and evaluation of AI interactions are also emphasized. [Extracted from the article]
