Abstract
- This article discusses the efforts of trans health activists in Argentina and New York to challenge the pathologization of trans identities in healthcare systems. The Gender Identity Law in Argentina, enacted in 2012, guaranteed access to gender-affirming care and prohibited medical gatekeeping. However, implementing the law has been challenging. In the United States, trans activists have faced similar barriers in advocating for change. The article explores the complexities of depathologizing trans healthcare and the need for collective resistance against oppressive systems of power. While the book provides valuable insights, some critics argue that it lacks ethnographic specificity and justification for a multi-sited project. Nevertheless, it is recommended for those interested in biopolitics, women's and gender studies, and medical anthropology. [Extracted from the article]
