Abstract
- Three hybrid compounds based on decavanadates, i.e., (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[Co(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<subscript>2</subscript>[V<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>28</subscript>]·4H<subscript>2</subscript>O (1), (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[Ni(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<subscript>2</subscript>[V<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>28</subscript>]·4H<subscript>2</subscript>O (2), and (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[Cd(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<subscript>2</subscript>[V<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>28</subscript>]·2H<subscript>2</subscript>O (3), (where β-Hala = zwitterionic form of β-alanine) were prepared by reactions in mildly acidic conditions (pH ~ 4) at room temperature. These compounds crystallise in two structure types, both crystallising in monoclinic P2<subscript>1</subscript>/n space group but with dissimilar cell packing, i.e., as tetrahydrates (1 and 2) and as a dihydrate (3). An influence of crystal radii and spin state of the central atom in [M(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<superscript>2+</superscript> complex cations on the crystal packing leading to the formation of different crystallohydrate forms was investigated together with previously prepared (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[Zn(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<subscript>2</subscript>[V<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>28</subscript>]·4H<subscript>2</subscript>O (4) and (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>[Mn(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<subscript>2</subscript>[V<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>28</subscript>]·2H<subscript>2</subscript>O (5) and spin states of [M(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>5</subscript>(β-HAla)]<superscript>2+</superscript> (M = Co<superscript>2+</superscript>, Ni<superscript>2+</superscript>, and Mn<superscript>2+</superscript>) cations in solution were confirmed by <superscript>1</superscript>H-NMR paramagnetic effects. FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra for 1–5 are in agreement with the X-ray structure analysis results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
