Abstract

Researchers at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in Iran have developed a novel film for intelligent and active food packaging. The film is made from barberry anthocyanins immobilized on cobalt-based metal-organic framework (Co-MOF) nanoparticles, along with biodegradable polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and chitosan nanofiber (ChNF). The film has antimicrobial properties, can detect freshness sensitively, and has improved tensile strength, flexibility, UV protection, and water vapor resistance. It also changes color to indicate spoilage of red meat. The research concludes that these films can be used as intelligent and active food packaging materials. [Extracted from the article]
