Abstract
- Researchers at Jilin Agricultural University in Changchun, China have found that tangeretin, a natural compound found in citrus peel, may protect against heart damage caused by cisplatin, a common chemotherapy drug. The study showed that tangeretin effectively countered cisplatin-induced damage in heart cells and improved cardiac function in animal models. The researchers believe that tangeretin activates AMPK, reduces the inactivation of Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase (ACC) protein, inhibits p38 MAPK, and prevents mitochondrial dysfunction and cell death. This research suggests that tangeretin has potential in safeguarding the heart from cisplatin-induced harm. [Extracted from the article]
