Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of Virginia explored the association between preoperative alcohol use, postoperative pain, and opioid consumption in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. The study found that there was no significant difference in pain scores or opioid use on the day of surgery among patients who consumed different amounts of alcohol prior to surgery. The researchers concluded that mild-to-moderate preoperative alcohol consumption does not appear to be associated with early postoperative pain or opioid use in CABG patients. This research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia. [Extracted from the article]
