Abstract

A recent study conducted at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Healthcare Systems in California aimed to evaluate the outcomes of a universal hepatitis delta virus (HDV) testing approach among veterans with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The study found that implementing reflex testing of all CHB patients with anti-HDV antibodies, followed by automated HDV RNA testing for positive patients, could improve the HDV testing cascade and lead to timely diagnosis of HDV. The research suggests that there is limited data on universal HDV testing programs in the United States, and further studies are needed to determine the most effective testing approach.
