Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom examined the rates of sudden death after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The study analyzed data from two clinical trials, the Prospective ARNi vs ACE Inhibitor Trial to Determine Superiority in Reducing Heart Failure Events After MI (PARADISE-MI) and Valsartan in Acute Myocardial Infarction (VALIANT) trials. The findings revealed that the risk of sudden death or resuscitated cardiac arrest (RCA) was highest in the first month after AMI and declined rapidly thereafter. The study also showed that the rate of sudden death/RCA in patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction and/or pulmonary congestion has decreased compared to 20 years ago. The researchers concluded that interventions are needed to further protect individuals in the highest-risk period after an infarction. [Extracted from the article]
