Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Washington in Seattle explored the biological basis behind the treatment outcomes of cerebral aneurysms using flow diverting stents (FDS). The researchers created patient-specific 3D models of aneurysms and used computational fluid dynamics to analyze the impact of FDS on hemodynamic flow. They found significant changes in gene transcription in endothelial cells (ECs) after FDS placement, particularly related to aneurysm hemodynamics. Further investigation is needed to understand the relationship between these transcriptional changes and treatment outcomes. This research provides valuable insights into the potential mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of FDS in treating cerebral aneurysms. [Extracted from the article]
