Abstract
- This article explores the impact of inflammation on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a), play a role in altering lipid and lipoprotein profiles in RA patients. The article discusses the effects of C-reactive protein (CRP) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) on lipoprotein functionality and the dysregulation of lipid and lipoprotein profiles in RA patients. These abnormalities contribute to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in RA patients. The article suggests that further research is needed to understand the mechanisms underlying these dysfunctions and develop targeted therapies to address them. [Extracted from the article]
