Abstract

A report from Rakuno Gakuen University in Hokkaido, Japan, discusses the outbreak of classical swine fever (CSF) in the pig-farming industry. The study aimed to identify effective biosecurity measures for preventing the introduction of CSF into pig farms. The researchers found that daily washing and disinfecting of work clothing in pig houses was effective in reducing the risk of CSF introduction in farms without infected wild boar nearby. In farms with infected wild boar in the vicinity, the absence of public roads on the farm and preventing wildlife intrusion into areas where pig carcasses were stored were effective measures. The research concludes that strict and comprehensive biosecurity measures should be prioritized to prevent CSF introduction. [Extracted from the article]
