Abstract
- Researchers from the University of Sydney in Australia have developed a smartphone application called "iWitnessed" to capture and preserve accurate and detailed eyewitness accounts. The application uses a guided recall procedure to elicit information from witnesses immediately after a critical incident. In a study involving undergraduate participants who witnessed a staged theft, the results showed that iWitnessed increased the amount of correct information reported in the participants' immediate accounts without compromising overall accuracy. However, iWitnessed did not improve delayed recall compared to other recall conditions. This research demonstrates the potential of technological advancements in enhancing eyewitness memory.
