Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) examined the association between body mass index (BMI) and the progression from binge-eating behavior to binge-eating disorder (BED) among adolescents in the United States. The study analyzed data from 9,964 adolescents aged 9-13 and found that a higher BMI was significantly associated with a greater risk of developing BED, regardless of whether the adolescents had engaged in binge-eating behavior previously. The researchers suggest that adolescents with a higher BMI may benefit from screening for binge eating and early intervention strategies to mitigate the risk of developing BED.
