Abstract

A recent study conducted at San Cecilio University Hospital in Granada, Spain, has examined the anthropometric parameters of the scapula in relation to sex estimation and the prevalence of glenohumeral osteoarthritis. The study found that the morphology of the scapula is a factor in the development of glenohumeral osteoarthritis and can be used for sex estimation in forensic anthropology. The researchers developed a discrimination function for sex estimation based on anthropometric parameters of the scapula and found that glenohumeral osteoarthritis was associated with a smaller alpha angle. This study provides valuable insights for anthropological-forensic identification when scapula remains are incomplete. [Extracted from the article]
