Abstract

Researchers from Pusan National University in South Korea have developed a versatile electrochemical biosensor chip for the simple and quantitative point-of-care testing of proteases. The chip consists of a reaction well, micropatterned electrodes, and target protease-dependent filter paper. The biosensor chips successfully detected three proteases: thrombin, leucine aminopeptidase (LAP), and the 3CL protease from the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The detection limits for these proteases were approximately 100 pg/mL for thrombin, 100 pg/mL for Mpro in artificial saliva, and 8 U/L for LAP in human serum. This research has been peer-reviewed.
