Abstract

Sitting for prolonged periods of time can have negative effects on health, including an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and death. Research has shown that breaking up sitting time with standing and movement can mitigate these risks. Sedentary behavior, such as sitting or lying down, affects various aspects of our biology, including vascular function, blood pressure, and inflammation. While regular exercise can help counteract the effects of sitting, it is still important to incorporate movement throughout the day. Standing desks can reduce sitting time, but the evidence for their health benefits is limited. Overall, the key is to prioritize movement and reduce sedentary behavior. [Extracted from the article]
