Abstract

This article explores the issue of pilots in Australia and South Africa being hesitant to admit when they lack knowledge. The author recounts his experience training a pilot named Hendrik, who made errors during a glide approach due to not using carb-heat. The author criticizes the extensive training procedures in place, arguing that they fail to effectively guide new instructors. He emphasizes the significance of comprehending the effects of the three primary flying controls and suggests involving students in the learning process through demonstration and practice. Additionally, the article explains how an aircraft turns by banking to the right, with the right wing slowing down and the left wing speeding up, resulting in increased lift on the left side and causing the aircraft to yaw and bank to the right. A table is provided to aid readers in understanding this process. [Extracted from the article]
