Abstract
- A study conducted by researchers at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, examined the prevalence of parenthood among hospitalized adult patients with severe mental illness (SMI). The study found that in the Western world, over one-third of hospitalized patients with SMI are parents, and their children are at an increased risk of developing mental health problems. The researchers collected quantitative data from medical records of 2,768 patients aged 18-63 years, and found that parenthood was most prevalent among female patients and those with recurrent depressive and bipolar disorders. The study concluded that this information can help develop prevention programs and better understand the needs of these families. [Extracted from the article]
