Abstract

A recent study conducted at Sao Paulo State University (UNESP) in Brazil examined the pathogenic features of Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) isolates obtained from non-diarrheic children. The study found that these isolates carried genes responsible for encoding major pilin subunits and adhesins, and exhibited high diversity. Additionally, the study identified EAEC/ExPEC hybrids in the intestinal microbiota of non-diarrheic children, suggesting that they may be a potential source of endogenous extraintestinal infections. The research was supported by the Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo (FAPESP). [Extracted from the article]
