Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from Kingston University explores the implementation of an educational film within antenatal care to reduce the risk of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in pregnancy. CMV infection is a leading cause of sensorineural hearing loss and neuro-disability in childhood. The study found that midwives were reluctant to discuss CMV as part of early pregnancy discussions due to lack of time, knowledge, and guidance. However, the educational intervention was seen as a useful tool to encourage conversations and empower women to manage risk. Successful implementation of CMV education in routine care will require increased awareness and knowledge among midwives. [Extracted from the article]
