Abstract

A recent study conducted in Debre Berhan City, Ethiopia, found that male support plays a significant role in women's decision to undergo cervical cancer screening. Women of low socioeconomic status are particularly affected by cervical cancer, and resistance from male partners is common in low- and middle-income countries. The survey, which involved 614 male participants, revealed that 58.5% of men supported their partners for cervical cancer screening. While awareness, knowledge, and perceptions of cervical cancer screening were low among men, they generally had a positive attitude and encouraged their wives to get screened if they noticed symptoms. The study suggests that strategies and action plans should be developed to promote and support male participation in cervical cancer screening in Ethiopia, including public campaigns, raising awareness among community leaders, involving non-governmental organizations, and community education.
