Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Leshan Normal University in China has found that allicin, a compound found in garlic, can improve the immune performance and expression of immune-related genes in Muchuan black-bone chickens. The researchers supplemented the chickens' diets with varying levels of allicin and observed improvements in growth performance, immune function, and protein and lipid metabolism. These findings suggest that allicin could be a potential alternative to antibiotics in animal husbandry. The study was published in the Indian Journal of Animal Research and has been peer-reviewed.
