Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from the Polish Academy of Sciences explores the potential effects of cannabinoids on reproductive processes in sheep. The study aimed to determine the influence of anandamide, an endogenous cannabinoid, on the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and luteinising hormone (LH) in the hypothalamus and pituitary of anoestrous ewes. The results suggest that endocannabinoids may play a role in regulating reproductive processes at the central nervous system level, potentially acting directly on GnRH neurons or indirectly through intermediates such as prostaglandins. Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms involved. [Extracted from the article]
