Abstract

A study conducted at Kunming Children's Hospital in China investigated the changes in serum immunoglobulin levels in children with thalassemia who undergo repeated blood transfusions and their correlation with delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions (DHTR). Serum samples were collected from children with thalassemia who received blood transfusion treatment and healthy children who underwent physical examination. The study found that the levels of certain serum immunoglobulins were significantly higher in children with thalassemia compared to the control group, while the level of one immunoglobulin was significantly lower. The research concluded that the serum immunoglobulin levels of children with thalassemia who undergo repeated blood transfusions are abnormal, and specific immunoglobulins are associated with DHTR in these children.
