Abstract

A report from Dokkyo Medical University in Tochigi, Japan discusses the use of photopharmacology to modulate biological phenomena through the photoconversion of substances in a specific target region at precise times. The researchers investigated the application of a microscale light-emitting diode (MicroLED) probe for the photoconversion of caged-glutamate (caged-Glu) in vivo. They found that the MicroLED probe was effective in modulating the local field potential (LFP) with caged-Glu in the mouse hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG). This research provides insights into the potential use of photopharmacology in neuropsychopharmacology. [Extracted from the article]
