Abstract

This article discusses the impact that employers have on individual and community health during public health emergencies. Employers can influence health outcomes through their products, workplace policies, and services. Healthcare-oriented employers, such as hospitals and pharmacies, play a critical role in providing essential services during emergencies. Employers also have a significant impact on health insurance coverage and can provide access to medical care and mental health services. Worksite policies and procedures can protect the health and safety of employees, and employers can serve as a source of credible information for their employees and their families. Additionally, employers can contribute to community health by reducing disease transmission, providing services, and supporting response efforts. Establishing partnerships between public health agencies and employers before emergencies occur is crucial for effective collaboration and response. The article concludes with recommendations for public health and emergency planners to enhance partnerships with employers and improve health outcomes during emergencies.
