Abstract

The UK Government has implemented Operation Early Dawn, an emergency plan aimed at alleviating prison overcrowding. This plan allows for individuals to be held in police cells for longer periods of time until a prison cell becomes available for them. The government introduced this measure in response to a series of riots that occurred across the country, resulting in a significant increase in arrests. Prisons Minister James Timpson believes that this change will help manage the pressure on prisons, although some individuals argue that more needs to be done to address the underlying issue of prison overcrowding.
