2D Coordination Polymers of Zn(II) with Diethylmalonic Acid Dianions and 4,4'-bipyridine: Synthesis and Structure.

Abstract
- Two new coordination compounds of zinc(II) with diethylmalonic acid anions (Et<subscript>2</subscript>mal<superscript>2–</superscript>) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) are synthesized: {[Zn(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)(4,4'-bipy)(Et<subscript>2</subscript>mal)]·0.5C<subscript>2</subscript>H<subscript>5</subscript>OH·1.5H<subscript>2</subscript>O}<subscript>n</subscript> (I) and {[Zn<subscript>4</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>2</subscript>(4,4'-bipy)<subscript>3</subscript>(Et<subscript>2</subscript>mal)<subscript>4</subscript>]·6H<subscript>2</subscript>O}<subscript>n</subscript> (II). According to the XRD data (CIF files CCDC nos. 2323336 (I) and 2323337 (II)), both compounds are 2D polymers with the sql and bey topology, respectively. The choice of the initial zinc salt and solvent predetermines the compositions and structures of the polymers under similar synthesis conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
