Abstract

This document provides a summary of the weather patterns and extreme events that occurred in the United States during the months of May and June 2024. In May, there were contrasting weather conditions across the country, with record-low temperatures in the Northwest and record-high temperatures in the Southwest. Severe thunderstorms and tornadoes occurred throughout the month, causing fatalities and damage. May was the 13th-warmest and 13th-wettest on record for the contiguous United States. In June, there was record-breaking heat in various parts of the country, with some areas experiencing daily-record highs. The Southwest and Southeastern states saw extreme heat, while the Northwest had cool temperatures. There were also significant rainfall and flooding in parts of the West and South. June 2024 was the second-hottest and 41st-driest June in the past century for the contiguous United States. The summary provides factual information about the temperatures, precipitation, and extreme events without any personal opinions or biases. [Extracted from the article]
