Abstract

The National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in India aims to reduce particulate pollution in 131 cities by up to 40% by 2026. The program provides funding to cities that demonstrate improvement in air quality, with funding coming from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) and the 15th Finance Commission (XV-FC). However, the program has several shortcomings, including a focus on PM10 levels instead of the more harmful PM2.5, a lack of correlation between policy implementation and air quality improvement, and neglect of certain sources of pollution. The article calls for reforms in the NCAP to address these issues and ensure effective implementation and improvement in air quality. [Extracted from the article]
