Abstract

This article, published in the Journal of Travel Medicine, presents a case report of a 58-year-old man from Colombia who developed an axillary skin lesion. The lesion was found to be caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, a fungus that causes paracoccidioidomycosis, an endemic mycosis prevalent in rural areas of Latin American countries. The patient had been living in France since 2002 and had visited Colombia in 2016. The article highlights the challenges in diagnosing imported cases of paracoccidioidomycosis and the importance of new diagnostic tools. The patient was treated with antifungal therapy and showed improvement after three months. [Extracted from the article]
