Abstract

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered operators of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner to inspect the cockpit seats due to an increase in reports of inadvertent movements that disrupt flights. Boeing had previously warned operators about a switch on the rear of the pilots' seats that can jam if loose or damaged. The FAA decided to issue the airworthiness directive as a final rule, citing the risk to the flying public. The directive affects 158 US-registered aircraft, and the FAA has received five reports of seat movements, the most recent in June. Boeing has expressed support for the directive.
