Abstract

A new study from Canada has developed a process for efficiently extracting and recycling metals from used alkaline batteries. This method, called hydrometallurgy, uses aqueous solutions to extract the metals and is more cost-effective and energy-efficient than other methods. The researchers are now working on scaling up the technique for industrial use. The document also highlights various scientific studies in applied chemistry, including the conversion of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide, the synthesis of synthetic diamonds, the growth of hydrocarbons from biogas, the reduction of CO2 to syngas and C2 hydrocarbons, the development of electronic spider silk sensors, the creation of reflective black paint for autonomous cars, the production of vanillin from ferulic acid, and the development of reversible supramolecular adhesives. Each study offers unique findings and potential applications in different fields. [Extracted from the article]
