Abstract

More than 50,000 people gathered in Indianapolis for the 10th National Eucharistic Congress, which included Mass, sessions on various Eucharist-related topics, and musical performances. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, papal envoy, celebrated the closing Mass and emphasized the connection between Eucharistic conversion and missionary conversion. The event concluded with a Eucharistic procession, and plans are underway for a Eucharistic pilgrimage from Indianapolis to Los Angeles in 2025. The working document for the second session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops was released, focusing on the theme of "how to be a missionary synodal Church." The document addresses the need for transparency and accountability, the role of women in the Church, and challenges faced by the Church, such as cultural individualism and social communitarianism. The topic of women deacons will continue to be reflected upon theologically. Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, a former Nuncio to the United States, has been excommunicated after being found guilty of schism for speaking out against Pope Francis and Vatican II. Finally, Blessed Carlo Acutis, an Italian teenager who curated websites and created an online database of Eucharistic miracles, will become the first millennial saint after a miracle attributed to his intercession was recognized.
