Abstract

A recent systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, explored the impact of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agents on glycemic control in patients with diabetes and chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection. The study found that successful clearance of HCV with DAA agents led to improved glycemic control, as evidenced by a significant reduction in haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels. This extrahepatic benefit of HCV eradication highlights the potential of DAA treatment in managing diabetes in patients with HCV infection. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Viral Hepatitis. [Extracted from the article]
