Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates explores the influence of a competitive psychological climate on knowledge withholding behavior among employees. The study found that a competitive climate indirectly affects knowledge withholding because it enhances employee envy. In a competitive climate, employees are more likely to engage in upward social comparisons, leading to envy and knowledge withholding as a means of gaining self-control and self-worth in the organization. The study suggests that managers should carefully manage the competitive climate to address knowledge withholding behavior among employees. [Extracted from the article]
