Abstract

A study conducted by scientists at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has found that age impacts the pharmacogenomics and treatment outcomes for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), with children having better chances of being cured compared to adults. The researchers examined 767 children and 309 adults diagnosed with B-cell ALL and assessed the leukemia cells' sensitivity to 21 drugs. They discovered that differences in drug potency between children and adults were largely explained by age-related differences in the underlying genomic abnormalities of the cancer. The study highlights the need for tailored treatment strategies for both children and adults with ALL. [Extracted from the article]
