Abstract
- This article explores the challenges and advantages of recycling technologies, with a focus on depolymerization using PMMA as an example. It addresses concerns about plastic production and disposal, emphasizing the importance of a circular economy and incorporating recycling technologies. The article explains different recycling processes and their pros and cons, highlighting depolymerization as a sustainable option that allows for unlimited recyclability. However, chemical recycling currently makes up a small percentage of total recycled volumes. The article also discusses the benefits and challenges of chemical recycling for PMMA, showcasing the progress made by the MMAtwo consortium in developing depolymerization technologies that produce high-quality recycled PMMA with reduced environmental impact. These advancements have the potential to create a closed-loop system for PMMA recycling. [Extracted from the article]
